How dull our lives would be without Uranus! It’s the planetary force in our horoscopes that blasts us out of a rut when we are too apathetic or fearful to make a needed change. Astrologers say about Uranus transits that you should “expect the unexpected,” for you can almost count on unusual and unforeseen events. It is also the planet of individuality, the force that keeps us from being monotonous clones of one another. Uranus is the much-needed urge within the human soul to keep moving forward to new and ever-higher levels of consciousness, rather than to stagnate. It is the planet of scientific discovery and of inventions. Without that part of our psyches, humanity would have remained in the Stone Age!
I much enjoy the daily selections on http://www.quotationspage.com/ and include them on my Google startup page. It often seems that the more brilliant quotations capture the essence of some planet or sign, so I’ve taken to saving them in a file for some unspecified future purpose.
Below are some that seem to bring out the very essence of the planet Uranus. (For more information about the authors and sources of the quote, click on their names.) No doubt if we examined the charts of those who are quoted, Uranus would be prominently featured.
- In every work of genius we recognize our own rejected thoughts; they come back to us with a certain alienated majesty. Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 – 1882), “Self Reliance”
Eccentricity is not, as dull people would have us believe, a form of madness. It is often a kind of innocent pride, and the man of genius and the aristocrat are frequently regarded as eccentrics because genius and aristocrat are entirely unafraid of and uninfluenced by the opinions and vagaries of the crowd. Edith Sitwell
He was a genius – that is to say, a man who does superlatively and without obvious effort something that most people cannot do by the uttermost exertion of their abilities. – Robertson Davies
The fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown. – Carl Sagan
Everyone is a genius at least once a year. The real geniuses simply have their bright ideas closer together. – Georg Christoph Lichtenberg
I passionately hate the idea of being With It, I think an artist has always to be out of step with his time. – Orson Welles
Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to be normal. – Albert Camus
Human salvation lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted. – Martin Luther King Jr.
To punish me for my contempt for authority, fate made me an authority myself.
– Albert Einstein

I like your ideas on Uranus and that it moves us
into higher levels of consciousness. If we did
not have this planet in our lives, we would still
be in the stone age. How true!
I do astrology charts for people and will include that explanation with my own in their charts.
Thank you.
I love your column in Dell magazine, by the way.
You are the one reason I purchase Dell.

Thanks, Mary. Uranus is the planet most connected with astrology, and I think one reason people are drawn to us is in order to understand their uniqueness. Donna

I’m learning to accept my Uranus. It’s in a TSqaure and makes my Saturn very uncomfortable.
This really resonated with me:

Thank you for posting this!

Yes, that’s a very active Uranus, indeed! But with Uranus-Saturn aspects you “grow into them,” getting more comfortable and skilled at keeping a balance between them. Donna

Yes, indeed. I’m learning. It was very difficult when I was a teenager, but now in my thirties…I let it light me up 🙂
